How to Know if You Have a Termite Infestation

Termites are one of those pets that can do real damage to your house. They can affect the structural integrity of the home’s foundation. They can also eat up ceilings, floors, and wall partitions. Furthermore, they can destroy your furniture. They are seriously one of the worst pests to have.

How do you then determine when you have a termite infestation in your home?

Here are some foolproof signs you need to watch out for.

Termite wings on the floor

During mating season, you will see an abundance of discarded wings all over the floors of your house. Once termites find a mate, they lose their wings. These discarded wings usually end up in the dark corners of your home. If you see these, call a professional to check where the termites might be building their nests.

Clicking sounds from the walls

Termites love to eat wood, and when they do their eating makes a munching sound. If your home is a quiet place, you can follow the sound to figure out where they are hiding.

Hollow sounding wood

To check whether termites have already successfully nibbled their way through your wood furniture, walls and posts, knock on them. As a homeowner, you are most likely aware of what your house is made of. You know if a particular item is made from solid timber. Listen to the sound when you knock on them. The sound should not be hollow. It should be a strong and solid sound. If it reverberates, it is a sign that a once solid wood became hollow due to termite infestation.

Termite droppings

Frass is one of those obvious signs you can look for. When termites go around, they usually leave droppings as they go. Watch out for small black marks and dark powdery substance near small holes and openings around your house.

Hard to open doors and windows

When termites pass-through door and window frames, they produce a sort of moist surrounding. This phenomenon damages the wood at times, causing it to deform. Once deformed, it becomes hard to open doors and windows due to the distorted fitting.

When dealing with termites, the only way to do it is to leave it to the hands of experts. Termites are hard to eradicate. To relieve your house from termites, you need professional-grade treatment and maintenance. This will ensure that this pest will never come back to your home. In the United States, termites do more damage than natural disasters! Do not let them turn your beautiful furniture to hollow pieces of wood, your ceiling to a large sheet of snack, your wall to a flimsy sheet of the wood panel. Do not be a victim of these annoying pests!
